ORIAS maintains France's single register of intermediaries in insurance, banking and finance, under the supervision of the Treasury. Registration is mandatory: insurance brokers, general agents and mandataires, banking and payment services intermediaries, financial investment advisers and crowdfunding intermediaries cannot legally distribute in France without being entered on it. The register holds tens of thousands of intermediaries and well over a hundred thousand individual registrations across the three sectors.
What ORIAS publishes
- The register itself, publicly searchable and the authoritative record of who may distribute what
- Registration guides for each category of intermediary
- Notices of regulatory action, including temporary distribution bans and withdrawals of professional association authorisation
- Annual reports with sector statistics
- Legal resources on registration requirements
Why it matters for compliance teams
ORIAS publishes little by volume but what it publishes is decisive: an intermediary's presence on the register determines whether a distribution arrangement is lawful. For any insurer or bank using third-party distribution in France, checking and monitoring ORIAS status is a standing control, not a one-off at onboarding.
Seqlense DOC tracks ORIAS notices alongside the ACPR and AMF material governing the intermediaries it registers, so a distribution compliance team can see status changes and supervisory action together.
