The Autorité de contrôle prudentiel et de résolution is the French supervisor for the banking and insurance sectors. It is an independent administrative authority backed by the Banque de France, with independence established in the Code monétaire et financier and a budget funded by contributions from the entities it supervises. It licenses credit institutions, insurers, investment firms, financing companies, payment institutions, e-money institutions and clearing houses, and acts as France's national resolution authority. For significant French banks it works within the ECB's Single Supervisory Mechanism.
