IVASS is the Italian insurance supervisory authority. It replaced ISVAP on 1 January 2013 with a governance structure integrated with that of Banca d'Italia, so that insurance and banking supervision in Italy are coordinated rather than siloed. It authorises insurance and reinsurance undertakings, supervises their sound and prudent management, oversees market conduct and product disclosure, and maintains the register of insurance and reinsurance intermediaries.
What IVASS publishes
- Regolamenti, its binding regulatory instruments implementing the Codice delle Assicurazioni Private and Solvency II
- Provvedimenti, individual and general measures
- Lettere al mercato, letters to the market setting supervisory expectations — often the fastest signal of a change in posture
- Sanctions decisions and enforcement measures
- The RUI register of intermediaries, and lists of unauthorised operators
- Bollettino statistico, annual reports and market analyses
Why it matters for compliance teams
The lettere al mercato are the document type to watch: they carry supervisory expectations on things like product oversight, claims handling and distributor conduct without going through a formal regulatory process, and they arrive with little notice.
Seqlense DOC indexes IVASS regolamenti, provvedimenti and market letters in full text alongside EIOPA's Solvency II material and Banca d'Italia's coordinated output, so an Italian insurer can see the European standard and the national expectation in one place.
