The Deutsche Bundesbank is Germany's central bank and a member of the Eurosystem. German banking supervision is shared: BaFin holds the legal supervisory authority, while the Bundesbank carries out most of the operational work — analysing institutions' capital and liquidity adequacy, evaluating reporting, and conducting on-site inspections. For significant German banks both operate within the ECB's Single Supervisory Mechanism. The Bundesbank also runs payment infrastructure, manages cash operations and contributes to digital euro development.

What the Bundesbank publishes

  • The Monthly Report, its principal economic and monetary analysis
  • The Financial Stability Review
  • Supervisory reporting requirements, circulars and technical specifications for submitting data
  • Extensive statistics on banking, payments, securities and the real economy
  • Research papers, discussion papers and speeches

Why it matters for compliance teams

The Bundesbank is the counterparty a German bank's reporting function actually deals with. Its reporting specifications and validation rules determine what has to be submitted and in what form, and changes there create concrete work regardless of whether any underlying rule changed.

Seqlense DOC indexes Bundesbank reporting requirements and analysis alongside BaFin circulars and the ECB and EBA material above them, so a German institution can see the full supervisory stack in one place.
