The European Parliament is the only directly elected institution of the European Union and, with the Council of the EU, one of its two co-legislators. Under the ordinary legislative procedure it adopts and amends the regulations and directives that eventually govern every financial institution in the single market, and it holds budgetary authority and democratic oversight of the European Commission.

What the Parliament publishes

  • Committee reports and draft reports, notably from ECON on financial affairs and LIBE on data protection
  • Amendments tabled in committee and in plenary, which is where a proposal's final shape is actually decided
  • Resolutions, both legislative and own-initiative
  • Plenary texts adopted, the official record of each session
  • The Legislative Observatory, tracking every file through its procedural stages
  • Parliamentary questions and their answers, plus studies from its research service

Why it matters for compliance teams

By the time a regulation reaches the Official Journal, the decisions that shaped it are already a year or more old. The Parliament's committee stage is where a definition gets widened, a threshold moves, or an exemption disappears — and those documents are public long before the final text exists.

This is the single largest source in the Seqlense DOC corpus by volume, which makes it precisely the one you cannot monitor by hand. DOC indexes it in full text so you can follow a specific file rather than the whole firehose.
