The Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores supervises Spain's securities markets and the firms operating in them. Its remit covers listed issuers and their disclosure obligations, investment firms and financial advisers, collective investment schemes and venture capital entities, market infrastructures, and — under MiCA — crypto-asset service providers. Its stated purpose is market transparency, correct price formation and investor protection.
What the CNMV publishes
- Circulars and technical guides, the instruments through which it sets detailed requirements
- Official registers, including approved prospectuses, authorised entities and collective investment schemes
- Inside information and other relevant disclosures filed by listed companies
- Sanctions and disciplinary decisions against regulated entities
- Annual reports, activity plans, market statistics and corporate governance reports
- Warnings on unauthorised entities operating in Spain
Why it matters for compliance teams
The CNMV's technical guides carry supervisory expectations that go well beyond the literal text of Spanish and EU law, particularly on suitability, product governance and the marketing of complex instruments. Its registers are also the practical way to verify a counterparty's authorisation status in Spain.
Seqlense DOC indexes CNMV circulars, guides and sanctions in full text alongside the ESMA standards they implement, so a firm passporting into Spain can see the European requirement and the Spanish supervisory reading side by side.
